Release Management
Release management coordinates the planning and deployment of changes so updates are delivered reliably, with controlled risk and clear communication.

Release Manager
As a Release Manager, I plan and coordinate what goes live, when, and how. I align dependencies across teams, make sure release readiness is honest, and keep stakeholders informed from build through deployment and validation. My focus is predictable outcomes: fewer surprises in production, clearer rollback thinking, and a release calendar people can trust.
Release management in ITIL 4 is the practice of making new and changed services and features available for use in a controlled way, managing the end-to-end mechanism for building, testing, and deploying releases.
The goal of release management is to:
- deliver releases successfully with managed risk
- protect service stability during deployment and cutover
- coordinate testing, validation, and communication
- improve release quality and frequency over time
Release planning and deployment control
These examples outline how release policies, windows, and readiness checks fit together with change records and deployment pipelines. They emphasise clear handoffs, validation steps, and post-release review so each release strengthens operational confidence.
